The Quartering Act, by Ella

The British passed many Acts that caused tension between Britain and, the colonies and, eventually this caused the American Revolution. The Quartering Act was passed by Parliament in 1765. The Quartering Act was an act that made the colonists give housing to the British soldiers. This Act also made the colonists provide food and water for the soldiers. The reason why the colonists had to share their homes and food was because the British soldiers didn’t have a place to stay after the French and Indian War. The British soldiers chose to stay in the colonies after the French and Indian War because they feared that the French and the Indians would try to take the colonies that belonged to the British. The colonies did not like this Act and it made them mad with the British. It also made the colonists scared that the government was trying to control their freedom. This was one of the many acts that led to the American Revolution.

The Boston Massacre by Genique

The Boston Massacre happened on March 5th, 1770. This event happened between the British soldiers and the colonists. The problem occurred because the British were passing many acts for example the Townshend Act. The Townshend Act taxed colonists on imports such as tea and glass. Also the British soldiers said “they felt threatened so they fired.” The effects after the Boston Massacre caused the death of five colonists, outrage of colonists, more anti-propaganda, and a problem leading to the American Revolution. More “red coats” were sent to keep the colonists in order. At the end of it all, the colonists weren’t happy with the British laws and the British were happy because they thought the colonists would follow their laws.

The Sugar Act of 1764 by Alice

In the 1700’s, America was not its own country. We belonged to England. The King of England, King George III teamed up with the American colonists against the French and Native Americans in a war called The Seven Years War, or more widely known as the French and Indian War. The British won the war. While you might think this is great for the British, winning the war was in fact putting Great Britain into more debt than the debt they were already in. See, there’s a saying “The sun never sets on the British empire.” That means the British claimed so much land, that the places they claimed were never all dark. Anyway, they fell into great debt for taking over all these parts of the world. Therefore when the French and Indian War ended, they fell into even more debt.

This war tied the British and the colonists really close together. When the British fell into all this debt, they were practically leaning on the colonists to help them out of it. The British passed “Acts” or laws on the colonists. The very first act they passed was called the Sugar Act. In this act, they taxed the colonists on things like sugar, molasses, and other goods.

I’m sure you’re wondering what effects this had on the colonists. They were angry about all this taxing the British lay on them. They also felt under pressure because they had a big struggle to feed their own families. To have to pay extra to the British was just not fair. So they formed a committee to protest the Sugar Act Britain passed on the colonists until the King no longer taxed them on sugar.

Life was tough if you lived in the life of John Adams, or Thomas Jefferson, or George Washington. But somehow, just somehow, we ended up winning the revolution against one of the most powerful empires  possibly in all the world.

The Boston Tea Party 1773 by Jonah

The Boston Tea Party was in December 1773. The Boston Tea Party was a protest about the British taxation on tea, which gave it its name “Boston Tea Party.” The colonists  protested by dressing up as Native Americans and boarding British ships and throwing chests of tea overbroad. To be exact there were 340 chests of tea thrown off which weighed over 92,000 pounds. The cargo of tea were probably worth about 1,700,000 dollars in today’s money. The colonists were tired from being taxed by the British Government so they protested against the Acts that the British forced upon them. The Tea Act gave the East India Company a monopoly on tea trade, and it was feared that this government- created monopoly might be extended in the future to include other goods. After the Tea dump the British Government imposed new laws to punish colonists. The Boston Tea Party was one of the most important events that took place in history and the American Revolution.
