The Boston Tea Party 1773 by Jonah

The Boston Tea Party was in December 1773. The Boston Tea Party was a protest about the British taxation on tea, which gave it its name “Boston Tea Party.” The colonists  protested by dressing up as Native Americans and boarding British ships and throwing chests of tea overbroad. To be exact there were 340 chests of tea thrown off which weighed over 92,000 pounds. The cargo of tea were probably worth about 1,700,000 dollars in today’s money. The colonists were tired from being taxed by the British Government so they protested against the Acts that the British forced upon them. The Tea Act gave the East India Company a monopoly on tea trade, and it was feared that this government- created monopoly might be extended in the future to include other goods. After the Tea dump the British Government imposed new laws to punish colonists. The Boston Tea Party was one of the most important events that took place in history and the American Revolution.
